ABOUT THE LAB
A small tool for inspectable energy decisions
True Energy Cost Lab is published by Quicksilver Industries LTD. It is a free calculator for comparing the electricity use, operating cost, and simple payback of two household scenarios.
What we publish
The lab combines a transparent calculation engine, editable assumptions, and residential electricity-rate snapshots from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. It does not require an account, and scenarios remain in the browser unless a visitor chooses to create a share link.
What we do not claim
Results are planning estimates, not utility-bill predictions, engineering advice, product endorsements, or professional financial recommendations. The calculator does not model fixed fees, taxes, tiered or time-of-use tariffs, financing, maintenance, rebates, equipment failure, or future electricity-price changes.
How to assess our work
Our methodology explains the formulas and decision boundaries. Our data-sources page identifies the public sources we use. Documented errors can be submitted through the corrections process.
The application source and its calculation tests are maintained in a public GitHub repository.
